In 2020, Moushie Zee (aka Maryam Zafar) moved from New York City to Western North Carolina's Blue Ridge Mountains.
Surrounded by orchards in Flat Rock, the vast pastures gave way to her artistic journey. Immersed in her natural surroundings, she began creating one-of-a-kind works inspired by organic rhythms of patterns, shifting light, texture, and color found in everyday natural environments. She is especially drawn to subtle details that often go unnoticed, where movement and stillness coexist. Her intention through her artwork is to translate the energy and emotional resonance of the natural world into interior spaces, transforming them into environments that feel more alive, grounded, and connected.
Inspired by the clay earth and the lush vegetation around her, she began creating small clay wall art tiles with inlaid floral forms.
In 2024, she expanded her practice into multi-layered abstract monoprint series. Her work is created using acrylic paint on paper, sized at 14 × 17 inches and presented in 16 × 20 inch frames.
More work will be added to the site as it becomes available. Feel free to contact Moushie. She welcomes inquiries and connections from galleries, publications, vineyards, restaurants, hotels, individual collectors, and private collectors.
